How to use TablePress

After installing the plugin, you can create and manage tables on the “TablePress” screen in the WordPress Dashboard.

To insert a table into a post or page, add a “TablePress table” block in the block editor and select the desired table or use Shortcodes with common page builders.

Beginner-friendly step-by-step tutorials, guides, and how-tos show how to achieve common and popular tasks with TablePress.
Examples for common styling changes via “Custom CSS” code can be found on the TablePress FAQ page.
You may also add certain features (like sorting, pagination, filtering, alternating row colors, row highlighting, print name and/or description, …) by enabling the corresponding checkboxes on a table’s “Edit” screen.

Installation

The easiest way to install TablePress is via your WordPress Dashboard:

  1. Go to the “Plugins” screen, click “Add New”, and search for “TablePress” in the WordPress Plugin Directory.
  2. Click “Install Now” and after that’s complete, click “Activate”.
  3. Create and manage tables by going to the “TablePress” screen in the admin menu.
  4. To insert a table into a post or page, add a “TablePress table” block in the block editor and select the desired table or use Shortcodes with common page builders.

Manual installation works just as for other WordPress plugins:

  1. Download the TablePress ZIP file and extract it on your computer.
  2. Move the folder “tablepress” to the “wp-content/plugins/” directory of your WordPress installation, e.g. via FTP.
  3. Activate “TablePress” on the “Plugins” screen of your WordPress Dashboard.
  4. Create and manage tables by going to the “TablePress” screen in the admin menu.
  5. To insert a table into a post or page, add a “TablePress table” block in the block editor and select the desired table or use Shortcodes with common page builders.

Requirements?

In short: WordPress 6.0 or higher, while the latest version of WordPress is always recommended. In addition, the server must be running PHP 7.2 or newer.

Languages and Localization?

TablePress uses the “Translate WordPress” platform. Please see the sidebar on the TablePress page in the WordPress Plugin Directory for available translations.

To make TablePress available in your language, go to the TablePress translations page, log in with a free wordpress.org account and start translating.

I used the plugin from the very beginning for my Travelblog and it helped me creating easy tables without any CSS knowledge. Tobias is very supportive and overall the plugin is just great and easy to use!

Update: Thank you Tobias for letting me know that I can still use horizontal scrolling, I have updated my review, I strongly believe TablePress is the best out there and I appreciate you keep esential features for small website owners who are struggling with Google updates. Thanks! My First Review: I heavily work with product comparison charts, tables as well as many informative tables. I used to use strict HTML with responsive CSS added. However, since these tables had grown so big in numbers, it was really difficult to manage and modify them. I switched to TablePress and managed to import all my tables using HTML markup. It took a couple of minutes to import and add a shortcode into my pages. With the excellent extensions, you can even paginate tables and enable search which is crazy!!! More importantly, it’s all free and Tobias is always up for helping us. Definitely deserves donations and all support! Many thanks Tobias! Osman

No added value in the Lite version – costs lifetime

By and large, I agree with the critical comments on the TablePress plugin. Why do you need a plugin if most of it has to be implemented with CSS? The limitations in the Lite version are so extensive that it is not practical to use it, the example of color has already been mentioned. The price of the premium version, on the other hand, does not justify the range of functions, especially with this really poor documentation. The intrusive advertising constantly rubs the user’s nose in this feeling of frustration at the limitations. Two separate versions would be better because they would be less frustrating. Then you delete faster. TablePress is a good example of a bait-and-switch offer. Overall, this is a bad development for WordPress. People are now tired of these offers – they don’t deliver what they promise, you have to familiarize yourself with them only to realize that the effort doesn’t justify the result, you lose time. The pricing at TablePress is simply outrageous for small non-profit projects without an agency connect I hope I find something better, otherwise I’ll end up programming my own tables. I use Avada, I wanted to save myself extensive templates. I’m faster with Avada’s on-board tools, TablePress Lite is a shot from the back to the chest with Avada.

  • A new “Fuzzy Search” feature module allows the visitor to find similar and not just exact search matches. This is useful when e.g. searching for words with the same pronunciation but different spelling. (TablePress Max only.)
  • The “Column Filter Dropdowns” feature module now allows specifying which columns should get a dropdown, and it’s possible to change their order! (TablePress Pro and Max only.)
  • Similarly, the “Search Panes” feature module now allows specifying which columns should get a search pane. (TablePress Pro and Max only.)
  • The “Fixed Columns” feature module now also allows the visitor to scroll left and right by clicking arrow buttons (see below for more). (TablePress Pro and Max only.)

  • The “Server-side Processing” feature module can automatically refresh the shown data after a configured interval, so that the visitor will always see the latest data. (TablePress Max only.)

The “Responsive Tables” and “Fixed Columns” premium modules offer more possibilities

  • The “Scroll” mode’s arrow buttons now stick to the top of the page, making them easier to use in long tables.
  • In addition, they will now only be shown if a table actually needs horizontal scrolling!
  • They also scroll the table in the expected direction now.
  • And even better: These scroll arrow buttons are now also available when using the “Fixed Columns” feature module!
  • When using the “Scroll” mode, the table name, description, and control elements like the Search now remain in place.
  • In the “Flip” mode, the sorting arrows are now properly rotated.
  • The “Stack” no longer conflicts with the “Fixed Columns” feature.
  • The Safari browser on iOS will no longer unexpectedly change font sizes.

Miscellaneous changes

  • TablePress warns that certain activated but retired TablePress Extensions will stop working with TablePress 3.0, later this year.

  • The user interface experience on the “Edit” screen was improved.
